INFLATION IS PROVING PERSISTENT

The economy has more momentum than expected – and that changes the environment buyers and borrowers are operating in.

Inflation is now 3.8% and is forecast to reach 4.2% by June before easing to 3.6% by December.

That keeps it above the 2–3% target band for some time.

The lift in inflation showed up across many parts of the economy during the second half of 2025.

While some of that is considered temporary, policymakers also noted:

Demand from households and businesses has grown faster than previously assessed.

Capacity pressures are also stronger than expected.

Labour market conditions remain tight.

In other words, parts of the economy are still running hot.

Inflation isn’t just a headline number. It reflects how businesses are pricing, how consumers are spending and how tight the system feels overall.

That environment influences confidence, lending conditions and long-term planning.

I keep a close watch on these shifts so clients can make property decisions with context, not guesswork.

If you’re planning a purchase, refinance or review this year, now’s a good time to factor in the bigger picture.
